A Two-Day Course Stan Locke

Purpose

Certification requires maintenance of qualifications and a familiarity with new concepts and practices that are developed subsequent to the original qualification if established more than three years prior to the current date.

Course Objectives

The objective of this course is to review the key concepts of Enterprise Architecture, explore new developments in the discipline and address questions that have arisen during the practice subsequent to the original Zachman Certification.

Course Contents

There are four major components of this course:

Review Basic Concepts

  • Review the environmental challenges that demand Enterprise Architecture in the 21st Century Enterprise so as not to lose sight of the criticality of effecting Architecture in the face of the tyrannical demands of the urgent.
  • Review the fundamental change of strategy required for the community of people involved in Engineering and Manufacturing the Enterprise to an "assemble to order strategy."
  • Review the classification logic of the Framework ontology and be introduced to the new Framework graphic, Zachman Framework2™.
  • Review the Primitive Models (raw material for doing engineering) versus the Composite Models (the result of manufacturing).
  • Review the meta structures that constitute the four Enterprise-relevant Frameworks, the Product Framework, the Enterprise Framework, the Profession Framework and the Classification Framework.

New Developments

  • New Concepts. The understanding of The Framework ontology constantly expands as is the case with any discipline. It is important to expose the practicing community to the new understandings in order to bring them to bear in the practicing community as soon as possible.
  • New Practices. As conceptual understanding increases, applied research bridges to implementation and shortens the learning curve for realizing the benefits of the increased understanding.
  • New Methods. The result of applied research is formally embodied in a methodology which can be learned and practiced.
  • New Tools. As the methods are formalized and can be articulated, technology can be employed to facilitate the work of Enterprise Architecture

Sample Models

  • The inventory of sample models continuously expands which provides practical examples of useful and not-so-useful experiences in implementation. A review of the sample models is a quick way to assess the state-of-the-art and establish personal "benchmarks" for improving the practice.

Issues and Discussion

  • This is the opportunity to raise issues and resolve problems that stem from the implementation practice.

Intended Audience

This seminar is designed to provide a refresher for two kinds of people: a) those who want to renew their Zachman Certification upon expiration after three years and b) those who took the Masterclass more than three years ago and want to qualify for the Modeling Workshop in their pursuit of their initial Zachman Certification.

What the Participant will take away:

  • A sense of urgency for aggressively pursuing Enterprise Architecture
  • A review of the fundamental Enterprise Architecture concepts and definitions
  • A survey of recent developments in the concepts, practices, methods and tools
  • A review of the "best (and worst) practices" in the form of sample models
  • An opportunity to resolve open issues and questions
